Methods for the vacuum conveyance of calcium powder

Negative-pressure pneumatic conveying can transport calcium powder to processing equipment such as mixers, kneaders or extruders. When bulk powdered materials—such as flour, sugar, salt, calcium carbonate or other substances—need to be conveyed efficiently from one location to another, a variety of pneumatic conveying systems can be used, depending on the powdered material being handled, the distance to be covered and the required conveying capacity.

When bulk powdered materials—such as flour, sugar, salt, calcium carbonate or other substances—need to be conveyed efficiently from one location to another, a variety of pneumatic conveying systems can be used, depending on the powdered material being handled, the distance to be covered and the required conveying capacity. Furthermore, consideration must be given to whether the powdered material to be conveyed pneumatically is already a blended product.

  

Generally speaking, there are two distinct concepts in pneumatic conveying systems: negative-pressure systems and positive-pressure systems. Depending on the bulk material handling task, both solutions offer their own advantages and benefits. Pneumatic conveying systems can essentially be categorised into several different methods: dilute-phase pneumatic conveying, semi-dense-phase pneumatic conveying, dense-phase pneumatic conveying, and pulsed-phase or plug-flow pneumatic conveying.

  

Bulk materials can be conveyed in batches or continuously. Very small batches may even consist of a single bulk material. However, we are usually referring to batch handling, specifically discontinuous pneumatic conveying, where the process must be interrupted at regular intervals to allow discharge once a receiving vessel is filled. On the other hand, on large-scale production lines, bulk materials can be conveyed continuously without interruption.

  

The flow patterns in pneumatic conveying of bulk materials depend on the air velocity, the physical properties of the bulk material, the thermodynamic conditions of the air, and the mass ratio of solid to air; observers may observe different flow modes. All these flow patterns can be categorised into two main operating conditions: suspension mode and non-suspension mode. In suspension mode, suspension refers to individual particles being completely suspended in the air or in the selected conveying gas, such as nitrogen for explosive products.
